    CATEGORY: Real life

    SUB-FORUM:historical

    YOUR AD:

We have action, we have NPCs you are free to control, we love people with initiative. And we are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing characters can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are writing collaboratively a coherent story with many sideplots aside of it.

We have 4 ships of various allegiances to crew and islands belonging to the French and British crown to populate. Men aboard any ship are strongly recommended as first characters, and civilians as secondary ones. No more female sailors are allowed.

It's 1720 in the West Indies. Peace is to be signed soon, and the former enemies will get allied against the common foe - pirates, looting indiscriminately. Privateers remain in the business only for hunting pirates. Will our pirate crew survive?

Which side are you on? Sharpen your blades, load your guns, drain that last sip of rhum and join our adventures, spreading death BEFORE THE MAST!

The January issue of the "Histories and Chronicles of the West Indies" is up, with news, gossips, contest results and more.

There are plenty of stories to write "Before the Mast"! We have a plot for the privateers and for the French Navy saving them - if you have no characters in these groups, join the fun with a NPC (if not thinking to make one - since our story takes turns in focusing on various groups' stories), in Tortuga there is an unusual patient everyone can help saving... or advise the contrary, and the slaver plot has unfolded, besides the actual fight everyone is invited to join, in several ways a character (or a NPC if lacking a character in the group) could make his mark on the story: there are new recruits to integrate, a council deciding the fate of the prisoners, as well as a triumphal arrival to Tortuga. All these are waiting for your contribution - as well as for other subplots for your imagination to create.

Before the Mast's August issue of the "Chronicles and Histories of the West Indies " is up, with news and gossips, celebrating SIX YEARS BEFORE THE MAST.

“Before the Mast” is officially 72 months old, i.e. six whole years old! Warm thanks to all the crew, to everybody who has made it possible for our writing community to flourish and for the story to get further, and here is a birthday speech where nobody has been forgotten (hopefully). The plot has been updated, reflecting the passed six years “Before the Mast”, and, like every year, we have a top of the year highlighting the progress during this sixth year.

For the year 1720, until 1-st of August we have written over 12,000 posts in 486 threads, out of which 427 completed, 42 ongoing and only 17 (3.5 %) archived threads. For the year 1719 we wrote 18,251 posts in 705 threads, out of which 31 (i.e. 4.4%) abandoned threads.

Overall, in six years of writing actively, we have written over 30,250 posts in 1,191 threads, out of which 1,101 completed, 42 ongoing and 48 (4%) archived – a good score, given that in most RPGs, unfinished threads are more common than finished ones. We do finish the stories we start, unless exceptional circumstances!

Before the Mast's November issue of the "Chronicles and Histories of the West Indies " is up, with news and gossips.

The site is officially six years and three months old. Warm thanks to all the crew, to everybody who has made it possible for our writing community to flourish and for the story to get further. Overall, in six years and three months of writing actively, we have written over 30,750 posts in 1,219 threads, out of which 1,130 completed, 41 ongoing and 48 (3.9%) unfinished – a good score, given that in most RPGs, unfinished threads are more common than finished ones. We do finish the stories we start, unless exceptional circumstances!

We have passed to July 1720 in our story, but we still have to focus on completing the May and June stories as well. There are new and already ongoing threads which would welcome your participation. We are now in the process of exchanging prisoners between the French Navy and the pirates. The British Navy is investigating a theft. There are popular festivals awaiting more characters to join, both in Tortuga and in Port de Paix, and there is also a big battle, for now involving the pirates, but which will be soon available for the French and British Navy too.

Join our stories and make history in the West Indies BEFORE THE MAST!
